Approximately 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.
Police state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.
Police then located numerous other smeared cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement state initial examinations show the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; investigators are currently not cognizant of any harm in relation with the incident," they added.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the residents for details.
An important political figure stated the attack rendered him without words and needed to be solved promptly.
"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on residents of migrant background in February 2020.
