Comeback Medvedev Secures First Trophy in Over Two Years
19 of Medvedev's 21 titles have been won on hardcourt
A revitalized Medvedev claimed his first trophy for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament final.
Medvedev, a ex- number one, has experienced a torrid season, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.
Medvedev's varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serving in especial - led to him exiting of the elite rankings and finally splitting with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.
Presently working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought competitive victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.
This represents Medvedev's first title following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface after spring of the previous year.
Victory also means Medvedev has won twenty-one victories at 21 distinct events.
"It's the first time I'm at a competition with my both daughters at once, so to secure a title is particularly special," stated tennis professional Medvedev.
"This title is in dedication of my child her name, because the initial championship I got when my child her name was delivered was for her."
The athlete, the former major winner, had failed in his past six title deciders, featuring in Halle previously this season.
The player's defensive play style and recurring emotional displays on the playing surface had prompted observers to doubt if his ability to perform at the elite level was concluded.
But the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, attempting to come to the net and perform assertively, backed up by an improved serving game.
Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the first set against the tricky Moutet, winning four of the final five exchanges to go ahead.
The pair swapped service breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, attempting for his first ATP Tour championship, took control to force a decider.
He defended 4 initial chances in a close third set before the champion won the break to 15 to close out the victory.
Appropriately, the winner clinched the win with a shot at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
